Do dogs have celebrity alter egos? Elvis perhaps? Lady Ga Ga? Paris Hilton? Some owners think they do. To celebrate this year's Woofstock launch, we're hosting a chi-chi "Doggie Doggelganger" High Tea on June 6 at the Le Meridien King Edward Hotel to give 60 celebrity look-alike canines a chance to trot down the red carpet.
The King Edward staff will be putting on the Ritz for the 60 fetching dead ringer celebrity wanna-be's, lavishing them with a spread fit for top dogs. The pooches will strut their star charisma on the ballroom stage before an appreciative audience of fellow doggelgangers and their peeps. We're giving the "pup-arazzi" VIP access to this red carpet party at the King Edward Hotel on June 6. It's one of the new and exciting events at this year's Woofstock festival for dogs, the largest and most spectacular festival of its kind in North America, which takes place the following weekend on June 12 & 13. It's an unbeatable experience. Where else can dogs and their people shop for one-of-kind doggie fashion and accessories, furnishings, gourmet treats and spa services. Every year Woofstock gets larger, closing several streets and boulevards in the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood for the entire weekend. Woofstock draws innovative speciality vendors from across the U.S. and Canada. This year we're anticipating close to 300,000 people and over 250 vendors.
Now in its 8th year, Woofstock is Toronto's most popular and eagerly anticipated outdoor summer events. But it's also new and different each year, full of quirky and creative surprises. Like this year's star-studded Doggelganger High Tea. And our VIP Lounge. Woofstock has designed a special exclusive lounge for our VIP members. It's a private oasis of calm where cool canines and their power shopping owners will be ushered in by a doorman to "paws" for a while, and relax on comfortable lounge sofas - and of course specially designated VIP cushions.
Also new this year - our VIP in NYC contest. We want dog owners to tell us why their lovable, loyal and hardworking pet has been hounding them for a weekend of VIP R 'n R. The pooch with the best "tale" will win a luxury weekend getaway for two (plus him or herself of course) in New York City.
Our ever popular favourites:
-The Woofstock® Fashion Show will once again showcase what every furry fashionista needs in order to be dressed to the canines as top dog models pose on the "dogwalk."
- Not everyone of course can be the next top canine model. But there will be other opportunities for limelight hogs to shine. The Ms. and Mr. Canine Canada Pageant allows loveable mutts to showcase their inner beauty.
- Potential canine idols can vie for top place in the Stupid Dog Trick Contest where talent trounces beauty.
- And the Best Costume Contest is a chance for imaginative pooches to indulge their most flamboyant fantasies.
Each year Woofstock donates more than $25,000 worth of booth space to non-profit charitable organizations such as the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) as well as to over 30 rescue groups. Proceeds from the "Doggie Doggelganger" High Tea will go to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for Pets.
