PS, Hills is usually a poor quality food, vets generally recommend it because they get kickbacks from the company. Check the ingredient list- corn gluten meal shouldn't be one of the top, same with by-products ... in fact, they shouldn't be there at all! The only time I would say go with this food is if your dog has a serious health problem and needs to go on one of the foods from the hill's Prescription Diet line. If you can switch off, its usually best. Other crap foods are Iams, Eukanuba, Royal Canin... there are a lot of better options, just look! Check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com as well, its an independent review of almost all dry dog foods on the market.

Two dogs have died and six others were sickened after they came into contact with a poisonous substance at one of Toronto's leash free areas earlier this week. The deceased animals were found to have ingested a deadly ingredient in anti-freeze, which lead to their sudden demise.

News released today by Toronto Police indicated that other animals have been affected by poisoning in the park.

We want to know what you think about this issue. Have you visited this park on the weekend? Do you know anyone affected by the dog poisoning? Have an opinion to share about the issue? post your comments here:

having been through dog skunkings many times, by far the best product to use is Get The Odor Out by a company called enviro fresh. i always keep a bottle in the house because dogs always get skunked at night when the stores are closed. its the only thing that stops the smell from also coming back when your dog gets wet again. its inexpensive and you can get it almost anywhere like global, pet value. good luck

As owner of the nicest, kindest, friendliest, most lovable and laid-back dog which happens to be "one of those vicious Pit Bulls (or one like them)", I followed closely the coming and passing of Ontario's BSL in 2005 which targetted and banned these wonderful creatures (don't get me started). Dog-loving organizations and citizens alike protested and organized fund-rasing to hire a lawyer - someone notable and good at lawyering apparently, whose name escapes me at the moment (was it Eddie Greenspan?). Time passed, the law passed, and "we" were going to go to court. After the time came and went I was not able to find anything in the news nor in "Dogs, Dogs Dogs", nor on all the dog organization websites anything about this court battle. Not even Googling gave me anything on it. Does anyone know whatever happened? Obviously we lost since the nasty unjust BSL law still exists, but WHAT HAPPENED WITH THIS LAWYER AND HIS COURT DATE??

TorontoBarks.com is pleased to announce a new monthly column which will start on our site in January 2008 called "Barking For A Home".

Each month Lorraine Houston of www.speakingofdogs.com will feature a shelter or rescue dog who is in need of a place to hang his or her leash in a new forever home. She will also include background information about the organization that is facilitating the adoption, their mandate and a wish list.

Our primary goal is to bring to light the number of dogs who, through no fault of their own, need a second chance at love and life. As well, while introducing readers to the different groups via the column, we hope to inspire some of you to become involved in volunteering, even in some small way – no job is too small when it comes to helping dogs! Fundraising, event planning, newsletter creation, web site maintenance, fostering, transporting and administrative tasks all need the helping hands of many.

We hope you will help us find homes for these great dogs.

Check back each month and help us find a place for these dogs Barking For A Home!

                                      Hi everyone,

My dog Tetley was injured pretty badly at Sherwood Park last week. The fences that surround the pathways are large enough for him to jump through. While jumping through one of these fences Tetley was caught by something sharp and his stomach suffered a severe injury. A de-gloving aka. the skin was ripped off. It was terrifying and bloody and scary. And happened in a matter of seconds. The wound was very large and needed immediate surgery. Today is a week later and the skin on the wound has died and he must go in for surgery at Guelph for skin grafting. What does everyone think of the fences at the park? I see many dogs run through them and I do not want this to happen to another dog. So be careful, but how are we to know if there is a cut wire anywhere?

Thanks,
Tetleys mom.
