Jeremy is a perky, affectionate 12 year old terrier mix whose life has been a series of losses. When he was 5 years, old Jeremy’s original owner passed away. He then went to live with a family member and now, tragically after 7 years, she can no longer care for him due to a serious medical illness. For the last several months, Jeremy has been in the care of his veterinary clinic. His current owner has come to the realization that she needs to make arrangements for her beloved companion and has now signed documents that allow the veterinary clinic to find Jeremy a loving home that will suit his special needs.
Jeremy previously enjoyed life in a quiet home with his female owner and her cats. Consequently, he prefers the company of women and can sometimes be nervous around men. He has no experience with children but gets along well with cats. With time and patience, he has adapted well to interacting with the male members of his veterinary clinic. Jeremy greets each morning in good spirits and happy tail wags. He enjoys sitting in the laps of ‘his ladies’ at the clinic. He loves his walks and attention. He will do anything for a treat and enjoys posing for the camera. The team at his veterinary clinic thinks he’s a star and he deserves the star treatment.
Jeremy has medical conditions that could make his placement in a new home difficult. He has recently been diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and, while he has adapted well to his new medication regime, the necessary weekly medication and bi-annual blood work are cost-prohibitive for many people. As well, he was previously diagnosed with hypothyroidism which involves giving him thyroid tablets twice daily and doing periodic thyroid blood testing. His veterinarian has also placed him on three over-the-counter treatments (medications and food) that have increased his well-being while dealing with his medical conditions. His cheerleaders at the clinic have estimated that his veterinary costs can be budgeted at approximately $160 per month.
Please don’t let his age and medical conditions deter you from at least considering this charming adoptable companion. Dear little Jeremy epitomizes what we love most about dogs – their ability to shine through life’s challenges and soldier on despite the odds.
“Our greatest hope is that someone special will see how extraordinary our Jer-Bear is and open up their hearts to give him the forever home he deserves” say Jeremy’s caregivers team
