Charlie is a handsome 4 year old neutered male English Cocker Spaniel. He is a very sweet and clever boy who benefits greatly from proper guidance and consistent direction. He knows the responses to heel, sit, down, leave it, stay, come and crate. He has excellent focus and does very well with training; he is a dog who could easily compete in obedience or agility. His only real issues revolve around food and his guarding of it. He is well trained, but needs to have a savvy dog owner who can continue to work on diffusing and diminishing his food guarding issues. Because he is aggressive with other dogs when it comes to guarding his food he must be in an only dog home. He has been on several long off leash walks with other dogs and he has shown no aggression towards them in that situation (no food involved). He really enjoys the off leash walks, however, he is not reliable with his recall training and therefore cannot be off leash unless it's a secured fenced yard or a fenced off-leash area. It is important for Charlie to have access to a fenced in area so he can run around and continue to have socialization with other dogs in a safe setting.
Typical of the spaniel breed, his ears, eyes and skin will need to be cared for and maintained which requires regular grooming. His diet includes lots of vegetables to help him to feel full and to keep him from becoming overweight. Charlie requires an inexpensive thyroid medication for the rest of his life and testing of his thyroid levels need to be done every six months.
Charlie is house trained, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped and has been looking for his forever home for almost a year now! If you feel you can give Charlie a safe and loving home, please contact Project Pet Rescue at info@projectpetrescue.com 416 815 8787 or 613 820 1669.
