BOSTON TERRIER CLUB OF CANADA RESCUE
ABOUT MILLIE
Millie is a 6 and a half year old, spayed, 17lb. female Boston Terrier. She was the constant companion of an elderly gentleman and the two were inseparable. Sadly, a few months ago Millie's owner passed away without making any provisions for her which left her homeless.
When Millie first came to rescue, she was confused, frightened and grieving for her owner. Millie, who has only one eye, was also healing from an injury to her remaining eye (received in a scuffle with a cat) so her situation was further complicated and stressful.
Since her arrival in foster care, Millie has made great strides. She has learned to trust again and is very sweet and affectionate. In true Boston fashion, she does have a tendency to get over-excited, and, when that happens she may react in fear. This is especially true if you startle her and approach from her blind side. Millie should go to a home with an experienced dog-savvy person who understands excitement-based behaviour. We also suggest no children and no cats for Millie.
Millie's foster home has been working with a behavioural consultant so this might be a good option for the person wanting to adopt her as well. Millie's foster home is also actively working to socialize her with other dogs as she had little or no exposure in her previous environment. At this point, she would do best as a single pet. A fenced yard would be excellent for her.
Millie is great in the car, is fine to be handled for grooming and does very well with a good exercise routine and daily structure. She is housetrained and crate-trained, fully vetted and is in excellent health.
Are you the one to give Millie a chance?

ABOUT BOSTON TERRIER CLUB OF CANADA RESCUE
Purebred rescues such as the Boston Terrier Club of Canada Rescue (BTCCR) Program exist because a group of breed fanciers are passionate about the welfare of their chosen breed.
There are many reasons why a Boston Terrier ends up in rescue. Some were purchased on a whim by people that didn’t understand the temperament of the breed. Sometimes lifestyle changes such as job loss or divorce dictate giving up a pet. Other dogs lose their homes when their owners become too sick or elderly to provide them necessary care, when they enter an assisted-living facility, or when they pass away.
Sometimes temperament problems that could have been easily redirected when the dog was young were allowed to continue until the family has a dog they no longer want to deal with. Many backyard dog breeders and pet stores are selling inbred pets without care for preventing genetic problems, and Bostons with health issues are surrendered to rescue because the family can’t afford the veterinary expenses. Many times it's just not the right breed of dog for that person or that particular family.
Still others are given up by owners who simply no longer want them.
No matter how the Boston arrives in our program, every dog is taken to a veterinarian for a health evaluation, any necessary treatment, updated with current vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested and put on preventative. All BTCCR dogs will be neutered or spayed prior to adoption.
