Sammy is an amazing 3 year old, cute as a button, eager to please, energetic, loving and trusting Jack Russell Terrier! Although he has limited vision, he adapts well, so much so that within a day of arriving in his foster home he had mapped the layout of the house and was scampering about as if he'd lived there all his life. Jack Russell Terrier Rescue Ontario (JRTRO) representatives say that “Sammy has special needs – but is not needy. His limited vision does not hold him back and shouldn't be a reason for anyone to pass him by”. Sammy looks you right in the eye and runs around the yard with careless abandon. He comes when called and barks to be let inside. He loves chewy bone treat time, and actually any time food is involved.
NOTES FROM FOSTER MOM: Sammy is a handsome fellow, very muscular and solid. He gets excited for walks and starts spinning and barking (a funny "woo, woo, woo" sounding bark when he hears his leash being taken from the closet). He loves to go for walks and never seems to run out of pulling power. I think with a bit of sustained work and reward-based training Sammy can be taught to walk smartly and in a more relaxed manner. Sammy is very social with people and is good with other dogs, he likes to burrow under the covers, whether in the bed or on the couch. He is not shy about snuggling up to us or our dog. I think Sammy likes to have another dog around. We suspect that they 'spoon' together during the day when we are at work.
JRTRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding new homes for displaced Jack Russell Terriers. The rescue helps dogs who are in shelters and take owner surrenders. A focus is also placed on educational activities for the public about the breed and its temperament, characteristics and handling. All JRT’s are spayed or neutered and vetted prior to being adopted.
