Barking for a Home, December 2009 - Katie and Ginger

Posted by Lorraine Houston on December 3rd 2009 Categorized under Barking For A Home

According to Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport (CCRT) reps “Katie and Ginger are two of the sweetest little dogs around!” Ginger and her daughter Katie are a bonded pair of Chihuahua/Pomeranian mixes who must be adopted together. They are extremely affectionate and love to follow their foster family everywhere they go. A glance in their direction and their little tails start wagging and they dance over for attention and cuddles. They insist that no lap ever be empty, and love to snuggle with everyone. They are intelligent and anxious to please. They love to be brushed and groomed, and don’t even mind getting their nails cut or teeth brushed. Katie and Ginger adore each other, and love to play together. Going for walks and playing outside – even in the rain and snow! – are their favorite pastimes. They love soft plush toys, chew toys, and are learning the fun game of fetch.

Katie and Ginger are friendly with other small to medium sized dogs. Large dogs tend to frighten them. They have not been exposed to cats. Sadly, the pair has come from a breeding facility (puppy mill!) and have not been exposed to living with a family or in a home so many things are new to them. They are a little shy at first, but warm up very quickly. Loud, sudden or sharp noises (such as cupboards closing) still startle them, but they are getting used to normal household noises and adapting very quickly.
Katie and Ginger need a forever home where they will receive lots of love and attention. They would really enjoy a small fenced yard where they can run and wrestle with each other off-leash. Young children tend to frighten them with their loud, high pitched voices and sudden movement; however they would do well with older children who know to be gentle with them. They are almost housetrained and have been microchipped, spayed, vaccinated and ready to go to their new home.
If you think your home would be perfect for them, please contact the Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport www.ccrt.net and complete an online adoption application.

A bit about CCRT:
CCRT is a network of volunteers working together to rescue, transport, foster and provide necessary veterinary care for homeless, abandoned, neglected, or abused Chihuahuas. In May 1999, Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport was born and today there are Regional Coordinators in each Canadian province!

Chihuahuas find their way to CCRT in a variety of ways. Shelters and humane societies across Canada contact CCRT as do owners who need/want to surrender their dogs when they can’t or won’t care for them any longer.
