Start your new year off on the right foot and paw, together

Posted in Articles by Sal Sloan on January 4th, 2012
Start your new year off on the right foot and paw, togetherIt's that time of year, when many people look forward to a fresh start and set goals to improve their health and fitness. The problem with New Year’s resolutions is that most good intentions are often derailed within a few weeks. Does this sound familiar? You are not alone. Fortunately, you don’t have to embark on this alone either - you can bring your four-legged friend along for the ride.

Barking For A Home - November - Lola

Posted in Articles by Lorraine Houston on November 7th, 2011
Barking For A Home - November - LolaMy name is Lola just like the song. Although I have never been a showgirl dancer many people feel I have good looks and charisma to be a star! I have petite physique and weigh in at a slight 10 pounds and although I am 8 years old, I don’t look at day over 3 years. I'm spayed, up to date on vaccines and am micro chipped. I had a kidney stone removed but that was a long time ago. I have lots of energy and enthusiasm for life. I love going for walks and strutting my blondeness!

Happy Howl-oween

Happy Howl-oweenThe night of ghosts and goblins is fast approaching. This can be lots of fun for the whole family, whether you are out collecting treats for tricks, or at home giving them out to the kids. It can be the favorite evening of the year for many of our youngsters, but not many dogs put it on their top ten list.

Barking For A Home - October - Harley

Posted in Articles by TorontoBarks.com on October 6th, 2011
Dear Harley came to the shelter as a "stray dog" in early August and was never claimed by his original owner. To add insult to injury he's has been overlooked for adoption each day since. Staff say he is just about the sweetest dog you will ever meet and at 10 years of age, he's mellow, calm and completely housetrained, even at the shelter he waits for the staff or dog walkers to come and take him out.

The Itchy Dog

Posted in Articles by Dr. Janet Henderson on September 6th, 2011
Some of the most frustrating cases that I see include the itchy dog.   The itchy dog can be difficult to diagnose and even when a diagnosis is made, treatment can often be frustrating and un-rewarding.  It is difficult to watch a dog stop what it is doing to scratch or to stay awake all night scratching because it just can't get relief.  When these cases aren't resolved, I'm not happy, the owner isn't happy and the dog definitely isn't happy.

To Leash or not to Leash

Posted in Articles by Gillian Ridgeway on September 5th, 2011
As the weather turns cooler, there seems to be even more dogs enjoying a romp in the park. The cool air brings a new sense of vitality and this is arguably the best dog walking weather you can get.

Barking For A Home - August - Miami

Posted in Articles by Lorraine Houston on August 10th, 2011
Barking For A Home - August - MiamiMiami is a 3-4 year old German Shepherd who was found as a stray in Brampton. Staff at the shelter felt she was possibly from an auto body shop or a garage because of the industrial area where she was found. Shy and timid, yet gentle and kind, the staff felt it would be in her best interest to go to a rescue organization where she could be placed in a home environment and hopefully gain confidence and trust.
